A Simple Farewell: Direct Cremation

Kingdom Memorials

Losing a loved one is never easy and during such times making funeral arrangements can be overwhelming. Direct cremation is a straightforward and dignified option that provides an alternative to traditional funeral services and, depending on your circumstances, it maybe the preferred choice for your family. Bourke’s Funeral Directors are here to help with whatever type of funeral you opt to give your loved one.

What is Direct Cremation?

Kingdom Memorials

Direct cremation involves the timely and respectful cremation of a deceased individual without a traditional funeral service or viewing. The body is cremated shortly after death, and the ashes are returned to the family. This minimalist approach can offer simplicity and affordability during a difficult time.

Benefits of Direct Cremation:

Kingdom Memorials

1. Cost-Effective: Direct cremation is more affordable.
2. Flexibility: Families can choose to hold a memorial service or celebration of life at a later date, allowing for more flexibility in planning and timing. This can be particularly suitable if you need to repatriate the ashes to another country.
3. Simplicity: Direct cremation eliminates the complexities of planning a traditional funeral, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a simpler process.
4. Personalization: Families can personalize memorial services by selecting unique urns, planning meaningful ceremonies, or scattering ashes in a location of significance.

The Process of Direct Cremation with Bourke’s Funeral Directors:

Kingdom Memorials

1. Transport and Preparation: Bourke’s Funeral Directors will arrange to collect the deceased from their place of death and ensure all necessary paperwork is completed for the cremation to take place at a Dublin Crematorium.

2. Cremation Service: If there is to be a family led service, a time will be agreed with the family where they can have 20 minutes at the crematorium and can honour their loved one with music, readings and reflections.

3. Ashes Return: After cremation, the ashes are collected, placed in an urn, and returned to the family. Families can choose to keep the ashes, scatter them, or inter them in a memorial site.
