About Bourke's Funeral Directors
From our Smithfield location in Dublin city centre, Bourke's Funeral Directors has been offering Dublin clients funeral arranging services for over 150 years.
Records show the Bourke family established their undertaking business back in the mid-1800s. Our independent family-run Dublin funeral directors have always traded as "Bourkes" or "Burkes" - the family used both spellings during the 1800s & it is not clear why they opted for the more unusual spelling of the name rather than the more typical "Burkes".
The mantle was passed from within the Bourke family to William Harmon, in the early 1900s. This tradition continued throughout the 20th century, with the business being passed down from father to son. In 2010, the business was passed from William (Billy) Harmon to his son, Alan Harmon. Alan has been working within the funeral business for over 30 years.

Bourke's Funeral Directors has always been more than just a Smithfield business. We have become an integral part of the local community. We have watched Smithfield transform from a small residential suburb of Dublin into the active and vibrant cosmopolitan city-centre location it is today.
Many of the original residents have left the area but they still have strong links to Smithfield and the surrounding areas. Former residents return to the old Church of St. Michan's on Halston Street or The Capuchin Church on Church Street to attend religious services.
Many of these former residents drop into Bourke's Funeral Directors for a nostalgic chat about the Smithfield of old and the changes this special part of Dublin has witnessed.
